The Office of the Sports Director for the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Students’ Union (AAUASU) has announced the commencement of registration for the formation of a women’s football league of the AAUA football team.
In a press statement given to journalists on Saturday night signed by the AAUASU Director of Sports, Comrade Jackson Oluwafemi, he urged interested female students willing to participate in the selection process for the team to contact his office for registration.
It was also disclosed that the team is expected to participate in the forthcoming Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) for women, the first of its kind in the history of the competition.
The statement reads: “The above office want to gladly and openly announce to the public that the school management has approved and registered the female football team to come to live in the institution and also registered them to partake in the coming Higher Institution Football League ( HIFL 2022) coming up in three months.”
The men’s football team of the institution, AAUA Luminaries, made history last year by becoming the first state-owned institution to qualify for HIFL Super4 but were eventually defeated in the finals by the University of Maiduguri’s Desert Warriors.
