More than six Anambrarians from the Anambra Literary Society represented the state at last week’s Abuja Literary Festival.

During the Grand Poetry Slam session, which took place at the Exhibition Pavillion Garki Abuja, numerous poets from different parts of Nigeria including Anambra State competed for the grand prize of Four Hundred Thousand Naira.

It was an incredible event as all participants from Anambra State made it to the finals and one of the young ladies, Ms Divine Onyekwena, emerged as the second runner up.

Speaking after the results were announced, Divine Onyekwena noted she was grateful to God and expressed her unreserved joy to the Anambra Literary Society for the opportunity to represent the state.

On his part, the Director of the Anambra Literary Society, Mr Chimuanya Chemo Egenti expressed his joy at the success of the Anambrarians at the Abuja Literary Festival Grand Slam, as it showed the literary prowess of Ndi Anambra.

He also added that some of the participants had earlier competed in other Slams in Anambra State as Divine emerged the Slam Champion at the PIN Poetry Slam Anambra and the first runner up at the Anambra Literary Society Slam.

This is coming barely one week after the Poets in Nigeria, Nigerian Students Poetry Prize award, which saw a young Anambrarian from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Mr Damian Okpara, emerge as the first runner up, winning over a Hundred Thousand Naira amongst other young Ndi Anambra who made it to the finals out of over 500 entries.
