Faruku Barade, a 400L student of the Faculty of Law in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has been declared the winner of the presidential election of the University Students’ Union Government.
The election, which held on Thursday the 2nd of May 2019 across various polling units on the three campuses of the University, was said to be peaceful and was conducted with no problems.
Faruku Barade was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Bashir Achida, after polling 3,595 votes to defeat his opponent, Abubakar Abdulrahman from the Faculty of Agriculture who polled 2,314 votes.
Suleiman Abubakar, who won the post of the General Secretary, polled 2,820 votes to beat his opponents Yushau Umar and Hamidu Muhammad who polled 1,867 and 928 votes, respectively. Ahmad Siraju polled 3,186 votes to defeat Abdullah Isa who polled 1,952 to win the post of the Assistant General Secretary. Hassan Garba also polled 2,146 votes to defeat Bashir Shuaib who polled 1,257 and Ibrahim Rabiu who polled 1,817 for the post of the Public Relations Officer 2.
The post of the Director of Sports was won by Abdulrasheed AbdulAfeez who polled 1,906 votes to defeat Abdullah Abubakar and Abubakar Rufai who polled 1,800 and 1,752 votes respectively. Musa Abdullah was declared the winner of the post of Food Director after polling a total number of 2,837 votes to defeat his opponent Sanni Usman who polled 2,318 votes.
Suleiman Yahaya won the post of the Protocol Director after polling a total number of 3,065 votes to defeat Auwal Tijani Abubakar who polled 2,177 votes. The post of the Welfare Director was won by Abdullah AbdulQafar who polled 3,156 votes to defeat Muhammad Auwal who polled 2,411 votes.
Ahmad Halima, Shafiu Ibrahim, Jabir Muhammad who ran unopposed were declared the winner of the posts of Vice President 1, Vice President 2 and Public Relations Officer 1, respectively.
The new executives took the oath of allegiance and were sworn in on Friday 3/05/2019.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullah Abdu Zuru, was present at the swearing in of the new executives. He lauded the peaceful conduct of the election and commended all students for their mutual cooperation and understanding. In his address, he noted that the University is still the most peaceful university in the country.
