Nigeria’s first vice-president, Alex Ekwueme, who was paid a final respect in Anambra State at a commendation service has been eulogized as a unifier and a perfect gentleman by President Mohammed Buhari.
The presidential eulogy was disclosed by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige who represented the president at the funeral service.
”The president had at a valedictory session for Dr. Ekwueme held by the council,” said Mr Ngige.
“Ekwueme is a total Nigerian, a unifier and a perfect gentleman.” Ngige said, quoting Mr. Buhari.
Mr. Ngige who regretted the absence of the President revealed that Alex Ekwueme was not just his political mentor but a man who was highly incorruptible and vehemently opposed to corruption scoring him F9 in Bribery and Corruption.
“Dr. Alex Ekwueme is my boss in politics. The problem of politics in Nigeria is the quick syndrome. People get into politics and in six months they want to become senator, governor etc. Dr. Ekwueme despite his achievements had F9 in certain areas. In bribery and corruption, he had F9.
“As one of the richest Nigerians, during the governorship election in Enugu under APN, he was conscripted. We had thought he would win because of his wealth but because he wouldn’t be involved in inducements to get votes, he was won. [Sic] So, in bribery and corruption known as B and C, he had zero,” said Mr. Ngige.
