BUK Expels 24 Students, Gets COREN Accreditation

The management of Bayero University, Kano has expelled no fewer than 24 students of the university over falsification of entry qualifications.

In a statement published by the spokesperson for the university, Mallam Lamara Garba, on Friday in Kano, it was revealed that their expulsion was approved by the Senate of the University at its 374th meeting, which was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

The statement also added that six other students were withdrawn for presenting fake results from their respective schools while another student was withdrawn for presenting a cancelled NECO-SSCE result.

The statement said, however, that 18 students will be invited to appear before the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, to give them a fair hearing.

In his speech, ‘the Director, Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Amina Umar-Abdullahi, explained that their expulsion followed the adoption of the report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.’

A simple breakdown of the expelled students showed that 10 were from the Faculty of Education, 9 from the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences and one each from the Faculties of Law, Agriculture, Science, Engineering and Arts and Islamic Studies.

He ended his speech by saying that the university will continue to screen the credentials of students to ensure that they meet all admission criteria.

On a happier note, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has given five years full accreditation to the university’s degree programmes in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.
