Campus: Ambode gives last speech as LASU visitor

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, gave his last speech in the Lagos State University as a visiting state governor on the 16th of May, during the 23rd convocation ceremony of the institution.

Governor Ambode lost his second bid for governorship during his political party’s primaries, which ushered in Babatunde Sanwo-Olu as the party representative and, eventually, the governor-elect.

In his farewell speech, the governor highlighted his achievements in the institution and assured the audience that his successor will perform well.

“This is going to be my last outing as Visitor to the University. We have embarked on extensive infrastructural development in the University,” Ambode said.

“We have commenced the process of providing a 6000-bed capacity hostel to the university.

“A lot has been done, but there is still a lot to be done and I am confident that my successor will accord the university with the same level of priority.

“We embarked on many infrastructural projects to drive LASU’s development, one of which is the new Senate Building which we will commission after this programme.

The convocation lecture, tagged: Africa Centres Of Excellence In African Universities: A Veritable Catalyst For Nation Building And Development, was delivered by the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo who spoke extensively on finding solutions through innovation and research on Nigeria’s developmental problems.

In attendance was the former president of Ghana, John Mahama, Lagos State Governor-elect, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, Pro-Chancellor Adebayo Ninalowo, Chancellor Goerge Oguntade, Vice-Chancellor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Special Adviser to the Lagos State governor on Education Obafela Bank-Olemoh, amongst other dignitaries.

At the end of the ceremony, the new Senate building was commissioned by the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo.
