Coronavirus: Seyi Makinde flags off the distribution of palliatives to 90,000 households

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has flagged off the distribution of palliatives to 90,000 households identified as the poorest of the poor to cushion the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statement made available on the Oyo State Government official twitter page, The governor kickstarted the distribution in Igboora, Ibarapa North Local Government Area.

He made it known that the state government decided to distribute palliatives to assist people whose means of livelihood have been badly affected by the partial shutdown of activities in the state.

Governor Makinde added that the government will embark on the distribution of another set of palliatives to 30,000 vulnerable persons in the society apart from the distribution of the palliatives rolled out to target 90,000 households.

He also maintained that farmers in the state will be given special palliatives of seedlings and pesticides as they claimed to have access to food items.

The governor also visited the Primary Health Care Centres in Idere and Igboora which have been marked for renovation to serve as Isolation centres.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria currently has 2950 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 481 persons discharged and 98 deaths.

Oyo State has 44 confirmed cases.

As Nigeria grapples with containing the spread of the disease, the number of confirmed cases has continued to increase with Lagos topping the chart with the highest number of cases.
