Coronavirus: University of Uyo Closes for One Month

The management of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has announced the closure of the institution for one month.

The decision was contained in a statement released on Friday by the Registrar of the University, Mr Aniedi-Abasi Udofia.

Udofia said the closure was in compliance with the directives of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to close down all Universities, as a measure to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in the country.

“University of Uyo will be closed for normal business for a period of one (1) month, commencing from Monday 23rd March 2020.

“However, all staff on essential services will continue to perform their duties as scheduled,” he said.

In view of the directive, students have been directed to vacate the campus and hostels on or before Monday, March 23, 2020.

As a measure to contain the spread of the Coronavirus disease which has killed many across the world, schools have been closed down, while religious and social gatherings have been prohibited in many states across Nigeria.
