An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo Abeokuta has ordered that a 31-year-old man, Taiwo Alimi, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.

The suspect, who was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge, was alleged to have raped the teenager and also impregnated her.

The Chief Magistrate, I. O. Abudu, who did not take the plea of Alimi ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional home pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Abudu adjourned the case until November 16th.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Adekunle Opayemi, told the court that the suspect committed the offence in June around 2 pm at Ijeja area of Abeokuta.

Opayemi alleged that the suspect raped the 14-year-old girl which later resulted in her pregnancy.

According to the Prosecutor, Alimi, who was driving a motorcycle on the day of the incident allegedly took advantage of the teenage girl who was sent on an errand by her mother.

He said the suspect gave the girl a ride on his motorcycle and promised to take her to where her mother sent her.

But instead, the suspect took her to his house where he had unlawful carnal knowledge and the girl saw blood rushing from her private part.

Opayemi said,”On getting home, the girl complained of heavy blood gushing out from her private part to her mother, who later took her to the hospital for medical treatment where she was confirmed to be six weeks and six days pregnant.”

The Prosecutor said the offence was contrary to the law and punishable under section 358 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State, 2006.
