The Ekiti State Government has confirmed one case of the coronavirus disease, raising the number of active cases to 12.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, the new positive case is a female, who entered Ekiti State during the lockdown, from Katsina State.
Dr Yaya-Kolade said her purpose was to visit her husband, a military officer, who resides in Oye-Ekiti.
“When he noticed symptoms of the COVID-19 infection, he alerted the task force and samples were taken from her for testing. The test result returned positive to Covid-19.
“This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Ekiti State to twelve (12), of which nine (9) are active, two (2) discharged, and one (1) death,” she added.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria currently has 2802 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 417 persons discharged and 93 deaths.
Ekiti State has 36 confirmed cases.
As Nigeria grapples with containing the spread of the disease, the number of confirmed cases has continued to increase with Lagos topping the chart with the highest number of cases.
