FUOYE Comes in Third at National Spelling Bee Competition

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti won third place in the National Spelling Bee competition at the 13th annual International Conference of Students of English and Literary Studies (ICOSELS) holding at the University of Jos, Plateau state.

The International Conference of Students of English and Literary Studies is an initiative aimed at uniting English Students across universities in the country, through a series of academic and social interactions.

The 2019 ICOSELS started on Monday, 8th of July 2019 at the University of Jos with different schools from all the regions in the country.

This year’s participants include the University of Jos; Federal University Oye-Ekiti; Ekiti State University, Ekiti; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Maiduguri; Ambrose Ali University; University of Benin; Lagos State University; the University of Lagos, amongst others.

The conference features several social and academic activities. The features range from spelling bee, lectures, oratory contests, spoken word presentations, debate competitions, pageantries, sporting activities and more.

Among the activities scheduled for the second day is the Spelling Bee Competition in which two schools from the southwest region emerged the first and third positions out of a number of schools that participated.

Adeniran Imisioluwa, a student of Ekiti State University (EKSU) emerged first while Abdulaziz Opeyemi, a student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria won the second position.

Olaniyan Folakemi, a 300level student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and a student from Federal University Otuoke were both awarded the third position.

The conference continues with the promise of more competitions amongst other sporting and social activities until Friday, which is the last day of the conference.
