FUOYE students go into polls

The students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, will exercise their franchise tomorrow as they elect new Students’ Union.

The students who had a protest led by Akinnibosun Victor and some other student leaders before being granted the liberty to have a Students’ Union Government will once again be electing the second executives of the union after the first election of September 2017 which saw Fasakin Taiwo emerge as president.

Ahead of the election, the atmosphere has become intense as the three contending aspirants for the position of the president, Aborishade Olawale of Faculty of Arts; Ojo Isaac Sanmi of Faculty of Social Science and Awodola Oluwaseun Samuel of Faculty of Science, have intensified to canvass votes.

Unlike the first election where the tug of war was between two aspirants, this year’s election has been made more intense with three aspirants vying for the post and all have a chance.

While speaking to CAMPUS REPORTER, a student identified, Bashir Opeyemi, said this year’s election will be ‘interesting and quite competitive enough’ because unlike the previous election that had only two contestants the students have an opportunity to choose the best among the three contesting now.

He added that he hoped the eventual president will possess qualities like ‘integrity’ and ability to ‘stand for justice anytime anywhere’.

According to another student identified as Muka Wareez Damilola, the second semester is well known for students’ social activities, and it’s glaring with the ongoing rallies and campaigns, ‘I can feel the tempo’.

Furthermore, he added that ‘the competition is really high’ for the presidential seat of the upcoming FuoyeSu election because all contestants are from Oye campus. Moreso, they are all capable.
