Federal University Oye-Ekiti observed a Walk Event and Keep Fit Day today, Wednesday, involving both staff and students.
The participants were required to trek to their respective locations be it the office or lecture rooms.
Daily exercise works to reduce the possibility of weakness and fatigue. Since exercise itself is a physical activity intended to improve strength and fitness. However, as a result of tight schedules and other similar excuses most people do not engage in any form of exercise which gives room for the fatigue that pervades the society today.
Speaking to CAMPUS REPORTER, a security officer of the university, said: “the purpose of the event is to give room for relaxation because when you exercise, your bone and all will relax…because some people don’t do exercise, so the event was organised for staff and student to keep fit.”
According to Mr Ajayi Ebenezer, a non-academic staff from Industrial Chemistry, “it is a good development. Most of us these days especially the working class they don’t want to walk, they love driving around. ‘Even when I was still mobile, anything like this, I pick my car’. This innovation and most of all the approach of those in charge, ‘I think its worth it.”.
While some trek, some mobile members of staff were asked to perform a two-three seconds’ exercise in front of the school gate before they are allowed to go.
At around 10:00 am public transport were allowed inside the school.
