The Federal University of Technology Akure Students’ Union (FUTASU) leadership has stepped into a new phase as the newly elected executives were sworn in on Friday the 4th of June 2021.
The event which took place at Hilltop Auditorium, Obanla campus, within the University was attended by management, staff, past union executives and students of the University.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Fuwape represented by his Deputy (Development), Professor Phillip Oguntunde said he is proud of the leaders the University is producing and this is just the beginning as there are more great things to achieve ahead.
He advised the new executives to strive to promote peaceful coexistence on the University campus and amongst the students. He noted that there cannot be progress in the midst of conflict as all the structures in the University belong to the students so therefore they need to take ownership of where they belong and take responsibilities for the development of the University.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Gbenga Onibi said the University is unique and proactive in attending to issues affecting students. He added that this availability must not be taken for granted as the rules and regulations guiding their studentship and their expected standards from the students will not be compromised.
He asked the leaders not to encourage hooliganism and vandalism but to cooperate with the University authorities so they can have a peaceful session and consequently benefit optimally from the various facilities put in place. A responsible government is achieved through dialogue and cooperation.
The newly elected President, Comrade Ibiyemi Abiodun from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering expressed gratitude to the University for their efforts in leading the University.
