“I am still alive,” Ex-Speaker Na’aba Debunks Death Rumours

A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alh. Ghali Umar Na’aba has said he is “still alive” after false reports of his death were circulated on social media.

Recently, the media was awash with reports of the former speaker’s death, with one suggesting that the Kano-born legislator had died of the coronavirus.

In a recent video, Na’aba said he was saddened over the rumours that had spread about him “in such an evil manner.”

He noted that he was alive but stuck in London, due to the ban on air travel occasioned by the coronavirus outbreak.

“I am alive but held up in London. I have finished whatever I wanted to do. If not for the lack of flights, I would have been back to Nigeria,” he said.

The 62-year-old politician said he was aggrieved by the deaths and hardship in Nigeria.

“I am sad about what is going on in my country about COVID-19, poverty and deaths in my community in Kano. Many people have died including some of my relatives.

“I want to use this opportunity to condole with every family that has suffered the loss of loved one,” he said.

Alh. Ghali Umar Na’aba was the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 – 2003 and is famed for his active role in truncating the alleged third term bid of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
