Some terrorists, on Thursday evening, abducted many students of Confluence State University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara in Kogi State.
The students were kidnapped while reading in the school premises in preparation for their forthcoming examinations.
The terrorists attacked the university campus at about 8:20 p.m.
One of the students who escaped during the ugly incident said “The bandits attacked my school and kidnapped hundreds of students. “God just saved me and my sister because they were just shooting, like bullets were flying everywhere. It was just so brutal and scary; my leg hurts, I dislocated my ankle,” he narrated.
Campus Reporter gathered that the attack lasted for nearly three hours as the local security operatives stationed within the university, as well as men of the Nigeria Police Force, were unable to stem the tide of the attack.
The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, is a State-owned University established on 20th August 2020 by the Kogi State Government under Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.
Reacting to the attack in a statement by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in Kogi, the state government said they were on top of the situation.
“Immediately the report was received, Governor Ahmed Ododo activated the security architecture to track the kidnappers and ensure the abducted students were rescued and the abductors apprehended.
“Hundreds of local hunters who understand the terrain, as well as the conventional security agents, are currently combing the area to ensure safe rescue of the abducted students who were kidnapped in the classrooms.
“So far, nine students have been reported missing. We wish to assure students, parents and the entire people of Kogi State that the Government is on top of the situation and all the abducted students will be rescued alive,” Fanwo said in a statement on Friday.
