Taraba State residents have expressed delight and jubilation following the release of the former governor of the state, Reverend Jolly Tavoro Nyame, from the Kuje Correctional Centre Abuja, on Monday.
Rev. Nyame and the former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Chibi Dariye, left Kuje Correctional Centre four months after they were granted a presidential pardon by the National Council of States on April 14, 2022.
Excited by the development, some jubilant citizens who spoke with this reporter in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, described the release of the former governor as a thing of joy, adding that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, has done the state a great favour.
Similarly, many of the residents who expressed joy over the release believed that the state’s political atmosphere would take a different dimension, especially now that the state is at the core of election activities.
According to Duka Konla, “It is a thing of joy that Rev. Nyame has finally regained his freedom, he is a father to all, and he is our political godfather; it is good to see that he is out.”
“Thanks to the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, he has done the people of Taraba a great favour,” he added.
Mrs Saliu Ramba Voto, a civil servant in the state who expressed joy over his release, said: “This is great news for the family, Zing local government and the state at large.”
“As you can see, the governorship flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, who is also the incumbent senator representing Taraba South, yesterday donated a brand new car to him after his release. This goes a long way to show how joyful we are.”
“I believe with his presence, the political activities in the state will take a new shape and discussion, especially now that election for both state and other senatorial offices is at,” she added.
The people added that they are looking forward to his arrival into the state and are happily waiting to receive him and welcome him to his house in Jalingo, the state capital.
