Students of the Lagos State University, LASU, have had their union election, after it was cancelled twice in the previous week.
The election earlier scheduled to hold last Tuesday and, later, Wednesday was could not hold both days, following technical inadequacies and students’ allegations of undue interference made against the management, which led to a protest.
But on Wednesday, the election eventually held, with Samuel Moshood Olalere (Shamgrin) emerging President.
This time around, the students were calm as it was clearly perceived that the election was a free and fair one, reports our correspondent who covered the polling process on campus.
The development followed meeting held between the management and Indepedent Electoral Committee last Friday, during which ground rules, like adoption of e-voting system and ID card for authentication, were adopted.
The election, which kicked off at various faculties moments after noon, extended till 5 pm in some faculties. Afterwards, collation exercise began in each faculty. The collation of results ended at night, when Mr. Olalere was declared winner.
