Barely two months after an ‘alleged’ release by the staff union of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in which it announced the suspension of the continuation of online lectures for students, the management of the institution has announced registration and recommencement of virtual lectures.
The management made this announcement in a press release signed by the polytechnic public relations officer, Yemi Ajibola, stating: “This development was ratified during an extended Management meeting held on Wednesday, 1st July 2020 where considerations were given to peculiar academic matters.
“The e-registration process, which will serve as a requisite for e-learning, will accommodate all categories of students devoid of any physical contacts from Monday, 6th July 2020.”
Recall the institution had, in May, adopted the online teaching for its students at all respective levels through various social platforms.
This was not unconnected to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu’s directive to reopen all higher institutions for teaching through the e-platforms.
The Chairman of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic chapter, Babatunde Osifalujo, who confirmed the development said that the school had given a pronouncement to gradually kick start lectures.
The e-learning was however suspended when a controversial press release signed by the ASUP chairman directed all online lectures to be suspended.
A section contained in the release reads: “Direct all Members to stop immediately, further participation on e-learning until clear cut modalities are agreed with by the Union, this is because some of our members are already being victimized by the management and some HOD are also harassing members. It should be noted that any member who continues with the e-learning program from today will be doing so at his or her own risk.
“Members are directed to stay out of the institution premises until Management has done the needful ( decontamination/ fumigation, provision of adequate water and soap for handwashing at strategic locations in the school, weeding of overgrown bushes). We shall continue to monitor this and revert back to the house.”
However, Ajibola noted that the e-learning session would start on “Wednesday, 8th July 2020 via www.mapoly.edu.ng for the next four weeks in continuation of the 2019/2020 academic session’s curricula.
“While, the assessment test will be conducted from Monday, 27th July 2020 in line with the reviewed academic calendar.”
