Mixed Reactions Trail Late Charges on New Registration Deadline

Following the recent extension of registration by the management on the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto and the new late charges of N500 or N5000 levied on late payment – the students of the university have described the recent developments as inconsiderate towards the students.

Recall that the Usmanu Danfodiyo University management recently announced an extension of registration the school’s registration period for the third time with N500 or N5,000 depending on the time of payment as late charges.

Reacting to this development, Dan Adam, a 400 level student of law, described it as a way of exploiting the less privileged students. He believes this development affects only the poor because no rich student will choose not to pay the registration fee.

“To me, I strongly disagree with the school on this. It is a way of exploiting the poor because I believe there is no rich student who is yet to pay or complete his registration up till now,” Adam reacted.

Additionally, a student who simply identified herself as Harajat expressed her dissatisfaction on the development and enjoined the school to review their stand by reducing the charges or remove them totally.

She said: “I blame the school for not being considerate to the students’ struggles and hustles to pay the school fees.

“I beg the school to reduce the charges or remove them totally if possible,” Hajarat pleaded.

On the contrary, Abdulaziz Olademije has applauded the school’s decision because he sees it as a way to ensure continued development for the institution.

“Even though I am a victim of this, I will still praise the management for imposing a sanction like this. This is what other schools do as well to bring development into their school. I think UDUS also needs this,” Aziz stated.

Speaking further, Oladimeji blamed his refusal to pay the registration fee on his being used to the former system where there were no consequences for late payment. However, he believes that it is obvious the University is now ready to be serious with it, saying that students will soon start complying more readily.

“For someone like me, I should not say money is the [whole] problem. Students are already addicted to no deadline for registration and in fact, personally, I thought the management would not implement same when they fixed it this season. But now, it is very clear that they are willing to take it seriously and with time students will get used to the practice,” ‘Oladimeji explained.
