New Era In Oyo State Transportation

The Oyo State Government is set to launch the multi-billion naira Omituntun transit network this week, with about 110 large capacity buses that will be operated from four transit terminals.

According to the State Government, the four transit terminals are at the major exit hubs in the state, Iwo Road, Old Ife Road, Challenge as well as Ojoo and are points of operations for these buses as they cater to about two million passengers monthly.

As further mentioned by the State Governor, Oyo State is a gateway to major states, providing a critical access way not only to other Southwest states but also to the North and the East.

The Iwo Road and Challenge terminals were categorised as the intra-city shuttles, while the terminals to be cited at Old Ife and Ojoo, are categorised as intercity terminals due to their strategic locations as exit points, South and North.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde is expected to kick off commercial operations this week, as the Challenge and Ojoo terminals are ready, while the Iwo Road and Old Ife Road terminals await completion.

While conducting an inspection of the level of work at the operational headquarters in Eleyele in preparation for the take-off of the project, last Thursday, Makinde emphasised the need for transforming intra- and inter-city transportation in Oyo. 

He stated that the pilot stage, is just the beginning, as the shuttle would be introduced to other interior areas of the state.

In an interview with a resident of Oyo state, Mr Ajadi Ajisebutu, he said the introduction of the Omituntun Transit like the Ajumose will be a relief for the state dwellers. 

He pointed out that the transit network is a continuation and even a better improvement of the Ajumose Bus of the Late Ajimobi-led administration which will ensure good transportation for citizens and dwellers in the state. 

Mrs Faseun Olaitan, expressed her joy on the developments and the coming ones in the transportation sector of the Oyo state, in her words, “it would checkmate the excesses of this Micra drivers and also bring sanity to the traffic. We just hope it would be at an affordable price and help us cut the cost of transportation”.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Taiwo Adisa, made it known that the moves of the governor in the transportation sector will reposition the Oyo State transportation system and make it enviable within the country.
