NMCN Inducts Second Set of UNIOSUN Nurses

On Wednesday the 10th of November 2021, Dr Umar Faruq Abubakar, the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) was in Osun State University for the induction of the second set of graduate nurses produced by the university. 

The NMCN is the regulatory body for nursing education and practice in the country. The first induction of the department of nursing science was done in September 2020, virtually, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

The program, which was held in a lecture theatre at the College of Health Sciences at Isale-Osun, Osogbo, was attended by Professor Israel Oyewole, Dean of the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, who represented the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afeez Bello. The university registrar, Mr Gafar Shittu, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christopher Alebiosu and other staff of the college were also present. The provost of the College, in his address, expressed his happiness at the success of the inductees and encouraged them to uphold the good conduct that allowed them to excel in their academics as they go into the profession.

The induction lecture was delivered by Professor Abimbola Oluwatosin who spoke on the topic ‘Actualising Health-Related SDGs: The Role of Nurses’. The registrar of NMCN administered an induction oath on the thirty-three (33) new nurses at the program.

The best graduating student, Nurse Adeniyi Ifeloluwa, while delivering the valedictory speech thanked the staff of the College of Health Sciences for the tutelage. She also admonished her colleagues to be of good conduct as they go into the nursing profession.

The representative of the Vice-Chancellor presented the award to the best graduating student. The University Graduate of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) also gave a cash prize to the best graduating student Adeniyi Ifeloluwa. Adeosun Lovette also received cash awards for exceptional leadership qualities.
