OAU gets new bursar

The Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has appointed Samson Ayansina the new Bursar of the institution.

The appointment of Mr Ayansina was announced Thursday via the official website of the university.

Until his appointment, he worked in the Finance Department of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, as a Deputy Bursar and Financial Controller.

He obtained his National Diploma at the Polytechnic, Ibadan between 1984 – 1986 where he emerged as overall Best Student in Business Administration. He also attended Lead City University, Ibadan where he bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree, First Class Honours, in Accounting and emerged as overall Best Student in Auditing in 2007.

Mr Ayansiyan was a secretarial staff between 1986 and 1990 and upon passing the examinations of Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, he was redeployed to Bursary Department as an Accounts Officer between 1990 and 1993. From 1991 to 1993, he worked in the Cash Office and Finance Office, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.

He also served as a Senior Accountant overseeing the reconciliation of the University Bank accounts with some accounts of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Wema Bank, including Advances section between 1993 and 1996 before he became a Principal Accountant and Chief Accountant respectively, and was in the Finance Office, Institute and Faculty of Education where he was in charge of different accounts, representing the Bursar and supervising all financial transactions.

Mr Ayansina was promoted to the rank of a Deputy Bursar/Financial Controller in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, where he generally supervised and coordinated the financial and administrative activities of the Department in 2008.

The new Bursar was a member of Investigation Panel set-up to investigate allegations levelled against the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Bursar, Osun State University, Osogbo, 2015; Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ibadan and District Society, 2016 to date. Vice-Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ibadan and District Society, 2014 – 2016; Member, Finance and General Purpose Committee, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, 2015.
