RUGIPO Shut Down Indefinitely

The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State, has announced an indefinite suspension of all activities in the institution.

Mr Sule Atiku, the Registrar of the school, disclosed this in a circular passed around on Tuesday the 18th of June 2019.

In his message, Mr Atiku failed to mention the reason why the school has been forced to halt its operations, however, there have been unresolved issues between the management and staff working in the polytechnic.

Members of the school teaching staff, under the umbrella of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and other sister unions on the campus, have refused to work over unpaid entitlements, allowances and salaries.

As a result of this closure, the first semester examination for the 2018/2019 academic session, which was to have commenced on Monday, 16 June 2019 has been postponed until further notice.

According to the circular signed by the school registrar, all students were advised to vacate the school no later than 3 pm on Tuesday the 18th of June 2019.

According to a student from the Department of Business Administration in the school, ASUP is fighting for their rights, though at the wrong time. Their actions will definitely affect the students greatly especially those who have been preparing for their examinations.
