UNIJOS Students To Immortalise Kums Shedrach

The memory of Shedrach Fenan Kums, a 300 level Law student of the University of Jos who was shot dead by men in “military uniform” on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the University of Jos Student Village Hostel, still remains fresh in the minds of Jossites. 

In a bid to keep his memory alive, two students of the university known as Armstrong Zittas and Liberty Wilson are set to launch a book titled: “The Victim of a Failed System: The Story of Shedrach Fenan Kums.” 

In a WhatsApp broadcast, Mr Zittas stated: “We were uncomfortable with the narratives about his death as tailored by the media, hence this book was written to tell the true story of what happened, to document his worthy legacies of standing for what is Truth and to call on government and non-governmental organizations, religious bodies, the society and all social institution including individual to all wake up to their responsibilities in ensuring peace on the Plateau and beyond.”

He further stressed that “Our aim is not just to honour him and other Jossites that were brutally murdered without due justice, but to also fashion a scope for a restorative justice system and engage critical stakeholders for a sustainable conversation.” 

Liberty Wilson is a student of Law and he is currently the Secretary-General of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) and Armstrong Zittas is a Special Education and Rehabilitation Science student who formerly served as the Public Relations Officer of the Faculty of Education and was also a SUG Presidential aspirant. 

Professor Dakas C.J Dakas wrote the foreword for the book. Prof Dakas is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jos and an erstwhile Attorney General of Plateau State.
