The Governing Council of the University of Lagos has issued an appointment letter to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University who is to dispense his duties in an acting capacity. The Governing Council of the Institution announced the appointment of Professor Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the faculty of Social Sciences as new Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Recall that on Wednesday, in a “Notice to the General Public on the Removal of the Vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos Akoka Lagos” signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the school, Oladejo Azeez, the Council stated that the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor was removed as a result of “serious act of wrongdoing, gross misconduct, financial recklessness and abuse of office.”
The erstwhile VC, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has reportedly headed to court to challenge his removal which he described as illegality that cannot be allowed to stand because it contravened the act of the University.
The Governing Council in the letter of appointment with reference number AD/REG/G/03 and signed by its Secretary issued to Soyombo formally notified him of his appointment which took effect immediately. The letter reads: “In consequence of the removal, the Council at the same meeting and in accordance with its statutory powers resolved to appoint you as Vice-Chancellor of the University in an Acting Capacity with immediate effect,” in part.
