Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has appointed a new Vice-Chancellor.
Mr Charles Okechukwu Esimone (Fellow, Academy of Science) has been appointed as the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university after emerging in the top position during the selection process.
This announcement was made by the university management at about 8 pm on Tuesday night.
Born in Tiko, Cameroon, Mr Esimone is a professor of Biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical microbiology and will take over from Mr Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku as the Vice-Chancellor of the university in June 2019.
In his time at the university, he has served as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
Esimone became a professor at age 37, becoming the first professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology in the southeast.
He also served as the Special Adviser on Academics to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Mr Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku.
He graduated from St. Joseph College Sasse, Cameroon and has a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Master of pharmacy and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
