The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State, Professor Fatima Tahir, has assured the parents and guardians that their wards are safe on campus.
She gave this assurance at the matriculation ceremony of the institution where a total number of 1,733 fresh students were admitted to study various undergraduate programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, there was a substantial increase in the number of students admitted for this session compared to the last session, which stood at 1,016.
She further said that out of the number admitted this session, 235 were servicemen and women and she implored the matriculating students to take their studies seriously because the institution has zero-tolerance for exam malpractice and there is no place for unionism within the four walls of the university.
The Chief of Army staff and the Chairman Governing Council of the University, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai represented by former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Military) of the University, Major General Obot Ifiok, said that the task as a University is to give life to the dreams of the bright-eyed young students and the next generation.
He noted that in the journey to succeed, all stakeholders including students and their parents or guardians must be dedicated to the cause.
In conclusion, he highlighted that the problem Nigeria is facing as a nation can only be solved when indigenous-solutions are connected with the right platform where they can be gestated and nurtured and that the solution, when fully mainstreamed, is expected to give the Nigerian Army and indeed the nation a competitive edge against their counterparts all over the world.
