Bayero University Resumes, But Many Students Are Not Happy

Bayero University, Kano, reopened for a new semester on Monday, but many students have since not been having pleasant moments.

This is due to the ongoing strike by the non-teaching staff unions of the university, who like their counterparts in other public universities in the country, have withheld their services since the beginning of December.

According to our correspondent, many students were seen loitering around and stranded as hall wardens refused to allow them to gain entrance into the halls of residence.

“Our hall admin said they are on strike and our hostels will not be allocated to us till further notice,” said Jasper, a level two engineering student.

“We are tired of coming to school to discover we can’t park in because of the strike,” lamented another student, speaking anonymously.

However, lectures commenced immediately, the same day the school resumed Monday.

Gloria Etuk, a level three student of Mass Communication said lectures had started lecturers were taking attendance.

Several students interviewed by our correspondent appealed to the authorities to ensure the striking workers return to their duties.
