Colleagues, fans mourn Tosyn Bucknor

Reactions have followed the death of Oluwatosin Bucknor, a journalist with Inspiration FM, born with sickle cell anaemia.

Tosyn, as she was popularly known, was found dead by her husband, Aurelien Boyer, a French national, when he arrived home from work on Monday night.

The People’s Democratic party Governorship candidate in the 2019 Lagos gubernatorial, Jimi Agbaje, posted about the demise of the ace On-Air Personality on social media on Tuesday.

“I have just received the sad news of the passage of Tosyn Bucknor (Area Mama) due to complications from Sickle cell. As a healthcare professional, I am well aware of the challenges of people living with sickle cell.
Tosyn fought a good fight,” wrote Mr Agbaje.

Also, the All Progressive Congress governorship candidate in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his condolence message, said: “My sincere condolence to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Tosyn Bucknor. She was a talented personality, full of life and vigour. May her soul rest in peace.”

Similarly, colleagues and friends in the entertainment industry have also sympathized with the family of the deceased.

Idileoye Oluwaseyitan (Seyi law), a popular comedian wrote on his Instagram page: “I am not sure your energy was comparable. You were one of the kindest persons, I have ever seen. You were too adorable. You were the life of the party. A voice that gave beauty to our radio. You were one of the best human beings, I have ever known.

“Tosin Bucknor, I celebrate your impacts and what you stood for. Heaven has yet again robbed us of an angel. May your soul find peace and be beautiful in the bosom of our Lord. Rest on and well, my dearest sister.”

Amongst her fans who paid tributes, Bayero Sa’ad @Igwebay, a Twitter user stated that she was a special human who had been undaunted in carrying out her professional duties.

“You are a fighter and fight till the last minute. You keep others hope high when you have things which want to take your hope away, u heal others pain when you are still in pain. You are a role model. My Hero Tosyn Bucknor RIP.”

According to Harri Obi @ harri_obi , “To illustrate why we shouldn’t adopt a fake accent, Kamal Salau told us in the broadcast school of how Cool FM rejected Tosyn Bucknor cuz she didn’t sound tush enough. She took her voice to Top Radio & in a few months, the morning show she hosted was the most listened to in Lagos.”

“At a time when it was impossible to get a radio gig if you didn’t sound bourgeois, Tosyn came around, changed the game, made broadcast execs reevaluate their hiring tactics and paved the way for younger broadcasters who didn’t want to join the phone’ trend. We’ve lost a Legend.”

Meanwhile, out of several media houses that send condolences, the Inspiration FM, where she worked until her death, on Wednesday, posted, “On behalf of IFM and all the OAPS we regret to announce that our sister friend and family member tosyn bucknor has passed on.”

Also, Top Radio FM, where the journalist previously hosted the morning show, posted her picture with the caption ‘we mourn’.

The graduate of law from the University of Lagos, Tosyn was born with sickle cell anaemia which prompted her to start ‘These Genes Project’ to help people with the condition.

She started her On-air personality duties with Tee-A at Eko FM. She was also an intern at Cool FM where she hosted the ‘Fun Hour Show’ on Saturdays.
