Despite Coronavirus, Nigerian University set to hold virtual examination August 10

Despite the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus which led to the shutdown of public and private institutions in the country, the Redeemers University of Nigeria (RUN) has announced to its students that there will be a virtual examination on August 10, 2020.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement signed by the school’s Administrative Officer, Registrar’s office, Ademola Adedeji.

Mr Adedeji said the decision to conduct the virtual examination was reached at the Management 489th meeting held on Thursday 9th July 2020.

He said they discussed the need for the University and it’s students to move forward amidst the present uncertain and unpredictable situation.

Campus Reporter gathered that the school had already commenced virtual learning for its students since the outbreak of the virus.

According to the statement, “The 2019/2020 second semester examination should hold, virtually, beginning from Monday, 10th August 2020.

“There should be a mock examination in the last week of July to get students acquainted with the main examination that will hold in August.

“Students who are owing school fees should make immediate arrangement to pay their outstanding fees before the commencement of the examination,” he added.  

The school management urged parents to give their children all necessary support to prevent them from falling of Covid-19 pandemic induced academic setback.

All attempts to reach the University Spokesperson, Adetunji Adeleye, to assert the school readiness for the Virtual examination were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.

This platform earlier reported the Federal Government ordered the closure of all tertiary, secondary and primary schools nationwide to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Some schools have resorted to online teaching, using platforms such as Whatsapp, Telegram, Google class, and Chrome LMS to ensure access to learning continues.

However, some students across public institutions are still left out due to low broadband penetration, data cost and expensive gadgets.

A new report by the United Nations shows that remote learning remains out of reach for at least 500 million students across the world during the coronavirus pandemic.
