Folorunsho Alakija to build paediatric hospital for Osun university

Osun State University, Osogbo, has disclosed a promise of the school’s chancellor, billionaire Folorunsho Alakija, to build a paediatric hospital for the school.

According to Jibola Oyekunle, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mrs Alakija, one of Africa’s richest individuals, hinted at her intention to build for the school a paediatric hospital when the management visited her to formally notify her of the plans for the school’s seventh convocation ceremonies.

The ceremonies are to hold between November 19 and 22, Mr Oyekunle said.

Alakija said she was ready to fulfil the pledge she made shortly after her appointment as the Chancellor of the school in 2016 by the Governo Rauf Aregbesola, according to the spokesperson for the school.

“She (Alakija) said we should think of UNIOSUN beyond just a State University,” said Mr Oyekunle. “For us, the sky is not the limit but a stepping stone. I am very optimistic that we’ll get there. People are tired of giving free donations except there is something there to gain in return.”

He continued: “As an institution, we have to look inward and run the University like a business. The profits from the business could now be used to maintain and sustain the University.”

“In her remarks, Dr. (Mrs) Folorunso Alakija reassured the Management team of the University of her undaunted commitment to giving Osun State University the benefit to own a paediatric hospital, which would be of numerous benefits to humanity, including job creation, improved IGR and reprieve to all mothers and parents.”

Mrs Alakija had in the past year donated a magnificent law faculty to Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, owned by the Anglican Church.
