The Lagos State University, LASU, held its orientation programme for students admitted into the School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) on Monday, January 9, 2023.
The LASUSBAS, which was formerly known as LASU Foundation JUPEB Programme, holds its activities at the university’s Badagry campus. The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who addressed the students and commissioned some projects in the school.
While addressing the students, Prof. Olatunji-Bello noted the change in the programme’s name and explained its reason. She congratulated the students on their admission to the school, describing the programme as the best A’ Level Programme in the country based on the previous performances of students in recent years across the country.
She said, “I congratulate your parents and sponsors for making the very smart choice to send you here to receive the best A-Level education offered anywhere in Nigeria. I say this because the performances of our students in previous years support this assertion that we have one of the best schools here in Nigeria, and this reflects positively on the professionalism, diligence, and hard work of our members of staff.”
She also assured the students of their chances of admission into the sophomore year if they met the cut-off mark. “As long as you meet the cut-off mark, we shall ensure that you are not denied admission into the 200 Level of our prestigious university,” she added.
She concluded her speech by warning the students against vices capable of disrupting their studies in the school.
The VC also commissioned a newly constructed two-winged cafeteria, stating her administration’s interventions at the campus.
The construction of a new security house, procurement of a new ambulance, two generators, and installation of CCTV and laptops are just a few of her administration’s investments.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Programme, Prof. Yunus Dauda, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her interventions in the school and revealed that the new school is divided into four major programmes: JUPEB examination, International Qualifying examination in the UK, USA, and Canada, Leadership Training and Students Mentoring and Professional Bodies Assistance, as well as Conference Supports and Community Service.
