Obasanjo’s son joins Buhari campaign, shuns dad

Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo has joined President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign team, brushing aside the interest of his father who has endorsed a challenger of Mr Buhari in the coming presidential poll.

Mr Obasanjo had in the previous weeks endorsed the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, whom, though, he had hitherto sworn never to go back for the country’s highest office.

However, Obasanjo junior was at the headquarters of the Buhari campaign in Abuja on Wednesday, received by the head of logistics there, Nasiru Danu, to join efforts towards Mr Buhari’s reelection bid in 2019.

The spokesperson for the campaign, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the development in a tweet this evening.

“Obasanjo Joins Buhari’s Campaign Team: From Left – Alhaji Nasiru Danu (The Dan Amarna of Dutse & Director of Logistics, PMB Campaign Organisation), Olujonwo Obasanjo (son of OBJ) and my humble self as we officially received OBJ’s son at d PMB Campaign Headquarters today in Abuja,” tweeted Mr Keyamo, a senior lawyer.

Also, Mr Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie via her Twitter handle confirmed the development.

CAMPUS REPORTER recalls that Mr Obasanjo’s son had n September written letter to the campaign team declaring his support for the re-election of Mr Buhari.

The letter reads, “Dear Sir, please find attached a statement of my public declaration and support for the 2019 second term re-election bid of our highly esteemed President Buhari.

“I have taken a personal decision to release the statement and to notify you of my availability to work for the re-election of our dear President Muhammadu Buhari with sincerity and loyalty.

“Please accept my assurances of the highest regards.”
