A civil society organisation known as The Osun Masterminds has asked the police and other security agencies in the state to bring all members of violent groups responsible for the recent spate of killings in the state to justice.
The amalgamation of several civil society groups stated this today, following a recent increase in inter-cult clashes and emboldening of non-state actors, who have wreaked havoc on innocent citizens.
Speaking at a special State Of The State address, the Executive Director of the Osun Masterminds on Monday, the 8th of August, Dr Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, urged all politicians and state actors to rein in their members and desist from the use of inflammatory statements capable of causing disunity and violence.
Dr Oyedokun-Alli, who commended the disbandment of the tactical squad of the Osun State Police Command, demanded that all members of the squad are debriefed and those found guilty of being involved in extrajudicial killings and rights violations be immediately sanctioned.
He also called on the Police to ensure that officers deployed to the governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, are thoroughly examined to ensure that none of them has a record of human rights abuse or has been previously indicted by any panel or body known to the law.
The Osun Masterminds urged Osun State residents to cooperate with the security agencies by exposing undesirable elements within their communities while reposing confidence in security agencies not to compromise the security of lives and property.
The statement in part read thus, “In the last two weeks, we have witnessed intra- and inter- state actors who wreaked havoc on the innocent citizen of the state.
Before the election, Osun had been adjudged one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
“No meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of violence. We are compelled by duty to raise alarm and call to caution perpetrators of actions capable of derailing good atmosphere in our state. We demand that the police bring known all members of violent groups responsible for the killings in the state”
“We urge all political gladiators and state actors to rein in their members to as to engender an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
We warn the state gladiators to refrain from the use of defamatory statements capable of causing disunity.”
