A Part 2 Chemistry Education student of the Department of Science and Technology Education, Faculty of Education identified as Joseph Daniel was declared dead in the early hours of Thursday, the 25th of November 2021. The part 2 student-teacher who was trying to take a bike to Acada High School, his teaching practice school, was hit by a truck in front of 99 Kosh, Ede Road, Ile-Ife.

In a statement released by the Electoral Body of the Great Ife Students’ Union headed by Comrade Ajayi Oluwafemi (Castro), he described the incident as an unfortunate one that has left everyone sober while he prayed that God grants the family, friends and acquaintances of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
However, the electoral commission confirmed that the driver of the truck has been arrested and detained at Moore Police Station, Ile-Ife. The remain of the deceased has been moved and deposited at the morgue of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) before he will be finally laid to rest.
Giving solutions to the incessant accidents happening around OAU and its environs, as this same spot at Ede Road has claimed the lives of three (3) students of the university this year, the electoral commission demanded immediate preventive measures from all authorities concerned including the creation of a speed bump on that part of that road and the immediate completion of that road. Additionally, “This bump should also be extended to maintenance as we have also witnessed about five (5) other accidents as a result of careless speed while the drivers run away.”

Reacting to this sad situation, the president-elect of the Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN), Obafemi Awolowo University Comrade Tesleem Ayobami S. condoled with all members of the association during this trying time and pleaded that teaching practice schools give a day off (Friday 26th of November, 2021) to all Obafemi Awolowo University student-teachers in their various schools as a way to pay their last respect to the deceased.
