“Education is key to attaining world peace” – UN President

The 74th President of the United Nations General Assembly, Prof Tijjani Bande, has urged Nigeria to work with other countries to ensure access to qualitative education, as this is one of the keys to attaining world peace.

He made the call at a public lecture held in his honour yesterday by students of political science in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, to celebrate his emergence as president and immense contribution to the department.

Professor Bande, who was a former vice-chancellor of the institution said that education is an important tool in the fight against insecurity anywhere in the world. He, therefore, charged the country to prioritise education to ensure world peace.

“We all have a duty to build this country. What we are doing is to project Nigeria in the best light and also for the country to contribute to world peace.

Education is one of the elements of the presidency of the 74th session. It is the key to world peace and development. Nigeria should work with other nations to bring quality and accessible education to all,” he said

Prof Bande was the permanent representative of Nigeria to the United Nations. On June 4, 2019, he was elected President of the upcoming 74th session of the Assembly, to succeed María Fernanda Espinosa, whose term ends in September 2019.
