The rector of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Isah Mohammad, has resigned, buckling under pressure from students and staff of the institution.
CAMPUS REPORTER reported last Monday that over 40 suspected thugs invaded the school and disrupted the sitting of the governing council meant for the deliberation to reject or support the re-appointment of the rector whose tenure ended last Friday.
Sources told CAMPUS REPORTER that the thugs were allegedly sponsored by Mr Muhammed and accused him of high-handedness and gross misconduct.
In July, students and staff of the institution protested against the rector over allegations of incompetence. They also called on the state governor, Yahaya Bello, to terminate his appointment.
However, CAMPUS REPORTER reliably gathered that the embattled rector resigned on Friday. The Polytechnic spokesman Luke Tijani also confirmed this.
“Mr Mohammed has officially resigned and all plans are put in place for his Deputy, Dr Attah Haruna to be the acting rector pending the plans to appoint a substantive Rector by the visitor of the school,” he said.
