The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife Osun State, Professor Eyitayo Ogunmodede, announced that the university will start offering courses on entrepreneurship for its students while addressing students at the First Bank entrepreneurial mindset program held in the school last week.
“Arising from this program (First Bank program) we have decided in the university that we [will] incorporate entrepreneurship fully into our university curriculum.”
“Our earlier discussion with her (organisers) was that we will have a 3-day programme for the university but we decided that entrepreneurship must be incorporated into our curriculum,” he explained.
He also stressed that the university’s Committee of Deans is working assiduously to ensure that this plan is implemented, stating that they are currently ensuring that necessary facilities for the incorporation of the entrepreneurial program are provided.
“The Committee of Deans [is] working together and we have taken an inventory of all the facilities the university will need and what we can use. Also, [for] those in engineering, we are putting up some buildings for them [to use] as a workshop.”
Additionally, he stated that this programme is important because it will empower students to be independent, instead of relying on only searching for employment after graduation.
“So that at the end of the day, after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University, we would not only have helped you define your vision, we [would also have equipped] you with the resources that will enable you to stand on your own,” he said.
While this is a welcome development for the university, the start date for the entrepreneurship program was not announced.
