The management of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu (OUI) in Osun State has disowned the four students remanded by the Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on 8th of September, over of secret cult membership and illegal possession of firearms.
The Vice Chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Professor Chibuzo Nwoke said that the four remanded students; Olabanji Micheal (23), Adewusi Micheal (23), Oyinbo Kehinde (21) and Afolabi Yussuf (23) had been expelled from the institution since the month of June, this year.
He said: “the students who claimed to be our students have been expelled since June. Oduduwa University has zero tolerance for cultism, we expelled the students after being indicted of some irregularities on campus”
He further buttressed that the institution which has been in existence for nine years had never recorded any case of student unrest or violence due to the measures put in place to test the behavior of the students before being admitted into the institution.
“The university is free of cultists, we can assure the parents. The institution is secured with both internal and external security. The university had secured the combined service of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Directorate of State Security and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the university”, he stated.
Professor Nwoke also pleaded with students to avoid behavior that are capable of soiling the image of the University as they would maintain academic excellence and character moulding.
It would be recalled that Magistrate Olubukola Awodele on 8th of September ordered the students accused of posing serious threat to the public through the possession of cache of firearms in the academic environment to be remanded in Ilesha prison pending the assignment of their bail application.
