On Tuesday morning, during a live programme strictly on COVID-19 related issues in Oyo state and Nigeria at large, Isaac Brown, a presenter and anchor of the programme on Fresh FM, Ibadan, reported that according to the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, a total of 900 people have been tested for COVID-19 out of 5,580,894 people in the state.
This was made known during a live interview session with Hon. Akin Alabi, representative of the Ona-Ara/Egbeda Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives. He was made to react and comment on the happenings in the state and country at large concerning the coronavirus pandemic affecting Nigerians and the global community.
When asked to react and comment on the measures of the Oyo state government towards the fight against the deadly virus, Hon. Akin Alabi reiterated that the government had earlier demonstrated a lackadaisical attitude towards the containment of the virus in the state, claiming that the political rally that was held by the ruling party with a large crowd in attendance, should not have taken place at that time.
He also mentioned that the dusk to dawn curfew and social distancing orders put in place by the state government to contain the novel virus have not been well enforced as people across the state have not been complying with the measures. He thereby charged the security agencies to ensure full compliance in order to aid the fight against the spread of the virus.
Hon. Akin Alabi further announced his plans and efforts to donate a testing centre to the state, claiming that they’ve been seeking approval from the state government for quite a long time and still hoping to get it soon.
