Pharmacists Council Postpones Qualifying Examination For Pharmacists

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has postponed the second cycle of the Pre-registration Examination for Pharmacists (PEP) which was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, 24th October 2020. On the 21st of March this year, the first cycle of the examination was done across the country and its result was released later in May.

In a letter obtained by this reporter, signed by the Registrar of the Council, Elijah Mohammad, and addressed to candidates who registered for the October 2020 PEP, the Council cited the current #EndSARS protests across the country as the reason for the postponement.

The letter referenced: PCN/E&T3461/VOL.T¹/53 and dated 20th October read, in part: “This is to inform all candidates that registered for the October 2020 PEP scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 24, 2020, that the examination has been postponed. The postponement is due to the current situation in the country where peaceful protest tagged ”END SARS” has been hijacked in some states by hoodlums leading to the imposition of a curfew in Edo and Lagos States.”

It continued: “Pharmacists Council of Nigeria as a regulatory agency took the decision to protect the lives of candidates who may have to travel to centres to write the examination. A new date will be announced as soon as the situation is conducive for the conduct of the examination. We regret the inconveniences caused by this postponement.” The letter concluded.

The Pre-registration Examination for Pharmacists is conducted by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria for Pharmacists who have done the one-year internship programme. The examination is a requisite for registration and practise of Pharmacy in Nigeria. The examination is to confirm the qualification of a pharmacist to practice.
