UDUS Gets Plagiarism Detection Software

The Management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto under the leadership of Prof. Sulaiman Lawal Bilbis has, on Wednesday 30th June, 2021, introduced a software application tagged ‘EagleScan’ which will detect plagiarism in submitted work. The resolution was reached during the 342nd senate meeting which was held on the 30th of June. 

In an exclusive document released from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, it is revealed that the development (software) was produced by the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) and presented to the public on the 27th of April, 2021. 

According to the document, the software is available to all members of the university, including lecturers and students. Also, until the 27th of July 2021, the software will be free but will cost only One Thousand One-Hundred and Fifty Naira (N1,150.00) per year with seamless access and unlimited usage, after this date.

The statement reads, in part: “This is to bring to the attention of the University Community that the federal government has launched an anti-plagiarism detection software, called EagleScan. The software is aimed at providing an affordable plagiarism detection platform for Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.”

“To this end, the Senate, at its 342nd meeting held on Wednesday, 30th June, 2021 approved that the University Management should deploy the software for the use of the University Community. The Software is free to use by any interested member of the University until the 27th of July, 2021. Thereafter, each user will pay the sum of One Thousand One-Hundred and Fifty Naira (N1,150.00) only per annum for unlimited use of the application.”

Interested members of the university are encouraged to test the accuracy, credibility and reliability of the software by following the guidelines below:


  1. Login to the website of the software: https://eaglescan.ng

  2. Scroll down and click on “Register now” under Nigerian Universities.

  3. On the next page for “user subscription page 1 for Nigerian universities”, locate and click on “Usmanu Danfodiyo University”.

  4. Fill the subscription form and click on “Register” to register your name.

  5. This will allow the super-admin of the University to activate you to start using the software.
