UI renames postgraduate school

The Postgraduate School at the University of Ibadan is now to be known as the Postgraduate College, the vice-chancellor has said.

Idowu Olayinka, unveiled the new development during a press briefing on Friday. Before now, the postgraduate arm of the UI was headed by a dean, assisted by two sub-deans, a deputy registrar/secretary, and four unit heads, constituting the management the management board.

With the new development, the head of the school is now to be known as provost, supported by two deputy provosts and two deputy registrars.

The VC said the new structure would help engender improved service delivery.

UI is Nigeria’s premier university, established in 1948, and has a reputation for being the country’s leader in postgraduate studies. It is said to have the highest number of professors in Nigeria and one of the highest PhD completion rates per year in Africa.

The VC further revealed the plan to have undergraduate-postgraduate student ratio profile of 4-6.
