UNIZIK assures continuing education students of no discrimination

The Continuing Education Programme (CEP) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Friday, engaged the newly admitted students under the programme in an orientation exercise.

Congratulating the new students, the Vice-Chancellor, Joseph Ahaneku explained that it shouldn’t be difficult to understand why his administration had taken pains in organising orientation ceremonies for CEP students as they are bona fide students of the University and exposed to same curricula in various disciplines as the regular full-time students.

According to Mr Ahaneku, a professor, “There is no discrimination between the Regular and the CEP programme. The only difference is the mode of study; while the regular students study full-time, you study part-time, that is on weekends, and so stay for a longer period.

“The format of the certificate issued to the student graduating from the CEP programme is exactly the same with that issued to the graduates through the regular programme; both certificates are meant to be of the same high standard.”

He noted with excitement that for the first time in many years, students, forty-four of them, were admitted into the technical education programme. According to him, “The University has scored yet another excellent landmark as the advocacy on technical education is already yielding fruits.”

With this feat, the VC posited that UNIZIK has become a source of hope and urged other Nigerian Universities to support the advocacy on technical education.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the new students to fulfil their financial obligations, attend their lectures, shun any form of examination misconduct, certificate forgery, cultism and other deviant behaviours such as robbery, rape among others. He further urged the students to defend and uphold the ethos of the University.

In her address, the director of CEP, Ada Sam-Omenyi commended the VC for his unalloyed support to the unit. Mrs Omenyi, a professor congratulated the new intakes for being among the 1200 students admitted for the 2017/2018 academic session.

Also speaking, the deputy director, Engr. J.A Okeke announced that the entrance examination into the Unit for the 2018/2019 academic session will be Computer Based Test (CBT).
