UNIZIK’s Management Faculty Celebrates Silver Jubilee

The vice-chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awaka, Joseph Ahaneku has described the institution as the “university of all times and a promising university of the 21st century”.

Mr Ahaneku made the remark at the ceremony marking the silver jubilee of the school’s faculty of management sciences at the University Auditorium on Tuesday.

According to him, the ceremony was not only for the faculty, but also the University community in general as the institution emerged the same year the faculty was founded.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the Dean, faculty of management sciences, Canon Nkamnebe, thanked everyone present at the occasion especially the seven founding faculty members, stating that if they had failed not appeared, there would have been nothing to celebrate.

Likening the faculty to a mustard seed that has grown into a big tree, the dean said that the faculty, which started in a three bedroom flat with seven academic staffs and three departments, has, in twenty-five years, erected a multi-wing storey building, which “is the best in the country”.

The faculty now has seven departments and over 100 staffs, the dean disclosed.

Delivering his paper, entitled “Management sciences in Nigeria in the past twenty-five years: A boardroom perspective”, the guest speaker, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, said, “change, innovation, creative and disruptive thinking are (the) imperatives of the future trends for business management.”

He stated, “the world is changing and only the game changers can survive. The world is going smart and technology-wise, and everyone must move with the times to succeed in today’s business world.”

The Obi of Onitsha stated that a new business requires technology literate individuals and stressed the need for companies to upgrade technologically.

The ceremony was chaired by a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.
