AE-FUNAI Vice-Chancellor Charges Communication Students on Practical Skills

The Vice-Chancellor of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Professor Sunday Elom, has reiterated his commitment to grooming and supporting talents that contribute to the development of society.

Professor Elom gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ) at the university’s senate building.

The PTCIJ team were on a courtesy visit to the university management as part of the activities under one of its programmes.

While welcoming the delegate, the Vice-Chancellor urged students, mostly from the Mass Communication Department, to take the opportunity of the training to develop themselves.

“I want to welcome all of you to this University,” he said. “I am excited with what is happening here towards bringing young people to where they should be.” 

He added that the action of the PTCIJ is in line with the core values of the University. “Your (PTCIJ) vision is in line with our university core values; Integrity, excellence and Entrepreneurship. This is a very young university but you can see we are moving on.

“I want to thank our dear students; we are putting you people on the plane you should be. Take this opportunity very seriously and don’t misuse it, whatever we can do to support you, we will do that.”

Speaking during the visit, Premium Times’ Managing Editor, Idris Akinbajo, said that PTCIJ is on a mission to train students on journalism which enriches democracy, national development and transparency.

He thanked the university management for the warm welcome and for creating an enabling environment to train students.

Highpoints of the visit include the presentation of a gift from the PTCIJ to the Vice-Chancellor.
