After a competitive electoral battle against three other candidates vying for the post of the Lagos State University Student Union President, Adelakun Adeoye Moses has emerged as the 32nd LASUSU President. The election was held on Thursday the 28th of April 2022 at Lagos State University campuses in Ojo, Epe and Ikeja.
The 300 level student from the Faculty of Arts and current President of the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) emerged as the winner with a total of 2,208 votes. One of his opponents, Ibrahim Igbo Ibrahim from the Department of Transport and Logistics received a total of 1,229 votes while Aina Oluwafemi, popularly known as Femland from the Faculty of Management Science, received a total of 1,229 votes. In fourth place is Oresanya Zakariya also known as E Zalculus from the Faculty of Science who received a total of 1,863 votes.
The university adopted an electronic voting system which allowed students to vote after accreditation with their phones and other electrical gadgets. The requirements for voting were listed to be the student ID card or a copy of their course registration form. In addition, the Independent Electoral Committee also made provisions for students who were not able to vote on their phones.
Meanwhile, two aspirants vying for the post of Sports Director, Folami Abayomi Sulaimon and Osukoya Emmanuel, were disqualified by the Independent Electoral Committee, leaving Adeniran Fademola (popularly known as Adesalvation) unopposed and automatically the winner.
This was the result of section 103(8) of the LASUSU constitution which says: “Aspirants for the position of the Sports Director must be a certified sportsperson who has actively participated in sports activities within and outside the university.”
The newly elected candidates are Kelani O. Alimot (Vice President), Oyindamola Oshodi aka Damzy (social director), Obanla A. Olanrewaju (General Secretary), Yusuf T. Zainab aka Zeefancy (Assistant General Secretary), Adeaga O. Joshua (Financial Secretary) Adelakun M. Adeoye (President), Babatunde T. Oluwatimilehin (Public Relations Officer), Adeniran Fademola (Sports director), Ismaeel Awaal Abdullahi (Treasurer), Ososanya O. Samuel (Vice President Ikeja), Adesanya S. Joseph (Welfare Director Epe), Ayodeji Olayiwola (Welfare Director Ojo).
