My last month at Ogene FM was full of growth and new experiences. One of the highlights was co-hosting the Money Mata show which focuses on financial issues and guides listeners to make better money decisions. It was exciting to connect with people on real-life topics and get more comfortable speaking on air.
I also got more mentorship on how to cast the news professionally. The training sessions helped me improve my pronunciation and taught me effective pacing strategies for news delivery. Now, I feel much more confident whenever I’m handed a script.
Writing programme scripts was also a big part of this month. I worked on scripts for Money Mata, 411 Show, and Facts You Didn’t Know. I had to rewrite the script for Facts You Didn’t Know because my first draft wasn’t good enough. This was initially frustrating, but it helped to improve my research and writing abilities to meet the station’s standards.
Co-hosting the 411 Show where we discussed trending issues was another highlight for me. It was fun working with my team to deliver engaging and relevant conversations to our audience.
I also had the opportunity to cover an outdoor event. It was my first time reporting outside the studio, and it came with its challenges. I had to think on the spot, but it was a great learning experience that helped me understand outdoor broadcasting.
Overall, this internship experience was a mix of challenges and wins that helped me grow as a broadcaster. I learnt so much and gained more confidence with every task. Thank you, CJID and Campus Reporter for this opportunity to learn and grow.
