NANS Brokers Release of Comrade in FUT Minna

With the assistance of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Dare Olatunji a 500level student of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna has been released from detention.

Arising from the NANS Zone A convention which held in Minna, between the 11th and 13th of August, a swift move was made by the Union to free her comrade from custody.

Led by the National President of the union, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, president of the institutions’ student union, Comrade Hamza Lateef and other key Union members from NANS Zone A, an emergency visit was contracted between the Union and the University Authority on why a key unionist was detained.

Addressing fellow comrades after a closed door meeting at the university’s old senate building in Bosso campus with the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Professor Iyaka Ahmed; Comrade Obasi said the meeting was imminent because the DSS had told them that the student had been released to the University.

Comrade Obasi read his conversation with the university’s Vice Chancellor while addressing his comrades, in which the reason for the meeting with the deputy vice chancellor was explained. Below is an audio recording of his address.

The meeting with the Deputy Vice Chancellor and some key management figures in the institution ended with a guarantee of a positive feedback to the union within two hours.

An eye witness at the scene, Comrade Kasali Saheed, said the student was later released the same day by the DSS after the chief security officer of the university brokered his release.

A chat with the student revealed that he was been accused of involvement in a cult incidence in Bida local government in Niger State, to which the police found him not guilty.
